INSET and CPD for Teachers

Mike’s workshops, In-service Training (INSET) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions aim to promote the use of skills associated with body language, presentation and articulation which will help teachers perform to much higher standards in the classroom. The sessions also focus on assisting Headteachers, Senior Managers and teachers develop and refine the skills they need to improve the way they interact with parents and colleagues, as well as with pupils.

Mike works with a huge range of Borough Councils (including Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, Redbridge, Hillingdon, Isle of Wight and Lambeth) providing Body Language training as part of their Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT) Induction programme. He has also run sessions for a number of private schools who are members of the Independent Schools Council (ISC). Mike is a trainer for Lighthouse Professional Development and lectures at Brighton University.

Being able to identify children who are vulnerable or underachieving is vital to teachers, and it is much easier and more accurate when you have learnt to identify the relevant body language signals. And imagine being able to defuse the tension created by an unhappy or hostile parent simply by adopting appropriate body language! Not only is it possible it's remarkably easy when you know how! In addition to illustrating a whole range of body language issues, Mike also explains exactly how the vocal apparatus works and how to avoid damage to vocal folds by learning to breath diaphragmatically and adopting specific techniques.

PLTS, PHE and Interview Technique for students

Recent government initiatives have highlighted the need for all those in education to be aware of the immense power of body language. The importance of teachers engaging in and benefitting from INSET and CPD has never been more acute. And personal, learning and thinking skills (PLTS) for students highlight the fact that children need to learn essential life skills, and that there is a real need for schools to deliver in this area.

Understanding, practising and refining body language skills will give students a head start whenever they have to interact with others. Occasionally these important life skills become absolutely essential. All the hard work to secure good examination grades can be wasted in a few seconds if the university or employment interview goes horribly wrong. And more often than not, a poor interview is the result of poor body language.

Mike Carter's body language and voice care session for new teachers in Lambeth was amazing! They gained a great deal of insight quickly whilst having fun. Radiating the quiet confidence that comes from great expertise, he held their attention throughout.”

I've just learnt more about teaching in the last two hours with you than I did in three years at University!
